The Montessori Method

What is a Montessori School?

Montessori schools are founded on the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and pioneer in child development from the early 1900's. Maria Montessori observed that children have a natural desire to learn for themselves through stimulating hands-on activities that help them grow into self-motivated, independent learners.

A Montessori education offers children opportunities to develop their potential as they step out into the world as engaged, competent, responsible, and respectful citizens with an understanding and appreciation that learning is for life.

The Montessori Method

The Montessori Method of education is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. Dr. Montessori’s Method has been time tested, with more than 100 years of success in diverse cultures throughout the world.

In a Montessori classroom, the teacher, child, and environment create a learning triangle. The classroom is prepared by the teacher to encourage independence, freedom within limits, and a sense of order. The child works with materials at their own pace, repeating an exercise as often as desired. The teacher demonstrates the correct use of materials as the children individually choose them.

At Epiphany Montessori School in Kingsville, TX, we adhere to this method, helping students become active seekers of knowledge while acquiring order, coordination, concentration, and independence.
